TEN SIMPLE RULES FOR GREENER EXHIBITING
- Build or Purchase Green: Increase the sustainability of your exhibit by building or purchasing one made from as much recycled, reclaimed or rapidly renewable material as possible. For instance, our products use no "virgin" wood or petroleum products. Instead, they are created from rapidly renewable materials such as bamboo, cork, sorghum and incorporate recycled metals and plastics into the design.
- Detoxify: Reduce pollution and hazards to human health by building or purchasing displays that feature “no VOC” varnishes, paints and other natural finishes. Look for PVC-free carpeting and those that use water-based or low-VOC padding and adhesives. Allowing carpet to “air out” before installation helps fumes dissipate.
- Don’t Weight: Modular and portable exhibits already tend to be lighter than custom displays, but anything you can do to further reduce shipping weight can make a real difference in your carbon footprint.
- Eco-Accessorize: Make sure flooring, lighting, signs, racks and other accessories promote sustainability, too. Our products comes with LED lighting, which reduces energy use by up to 90% over conventional sources.
- Print Less or Print Green: Cutting back on printed material wherever possible is important, but a certain amount of printing is usually necessary, too. We print banners and signs with water-based vegetable inks and print on the post-consumer recycled paper, plastic and fabric.
- Make it Last: Reuse is a key consideration, so build or buy with durability and multiple uses in mind. Our products are designed to be sturdy and flexible, giving them a longer lifecycle.
- Give It a New Life: Give your worn-out exhibit a second life. We offer a take-back program for your old booth at the end of its life. In addition, there many are other sources that resell, repurpose, rent or recycle used displays.
- Be Socially Responsible: Choose your partners and vendors carefully to favor those who use responsible labor practices, work with local suppliers, have energy- and water-saving programs in place, have waste reduction programs and recycle in their own operations.
- Localize: Buy locally and if possible, warehouse materials locally between shows to reduce the amount of shipping and delivery. Using local vendors also helps the local economy and gives something back to the communities where you exhibit.
- Become Carbon-Neutral: What you can’t reduce or eliminate can be offset by purchasing carbon offsets from a number of reliable sources. Consider purchasing them to offset staff travel and/or work with a green shipper who includes them as part of their service. The freight forwarder EA Logistics offers free carbon offsets to its trade show customers as part of its Delivered GrEAn™ (www.deliveredgrean.com) program.
